This book is great.

This book was spectacular for investigating designs and art from early Mesoamerica. The illustrations were clear and well organized. If I could have on thing that this book doesn't provide (and never claims to) is more biographical information on each design and what it might mean or represent. Regardless of that, this book was exactly what I was looking for an I couldn't be much happier with it.

Nice collection of glyphs

I bought this item to help me figure out which type of tattoo I want to get. Being of Mexican and Aztec decent I really want something that is close to my indigenous roots. This is a great archive of graphical imagery that has helped me understand some of the iconic glyphs my ancestors made.

About the Author
Marie Gale is a self-professed computer geek who actually likes reading laws, statutes, regulations, court cases and old books. She probably would have been a lawyer or a chemist has things worked out differently. As it is, in 1998 she started making and selling handcrafted soap and cosmetics. Her tendency toward research of all kinds, led her to delving into labeling regulations, resulting in her book "Soap and Cosmetic Labeling" (2008). Involvement with the community of soap and cosmetic handcrafters and seeing the need for good manufacturing practices, brought about her book "Good Manufacturing Practices for Handcrafters" (2012). Her love of old books became the driving force behind her extensive library of antique and vintage books about the making and use soap and cosmetics, particularly those products made with natural ingredients. Wanting to share at least some of the amazing recipes available in her library, Marie published "300 Years of Natural Soap & Cosmetic Recipes" (2011). Marie lives in Southwestern Oregon with the man of her life. When not participating in the handcrafted soap and cosmetic community, she can be found doing website programming, managing her family's timber ranch or researching her family tree.

Must be part of any personal care manufacturer's resource library!

This book is basically the FDA soap and cosmetics labeling Bible! I am no stranger to government regulations and had reviewed countless FDA pages and pages, but this book captures what you need to know in a way that doesn't make your head spin. If you are a soaper or cosmetic manufacturer, this is a must-have in your resource library. I read it in a day and will be returning to it over and over as I update and develop my labels.

This book is a "must-have " for any soapmakers or anyone in the cosmetic industry! It gives you updated advice on precise labeling issues so you won't be contacted by the authorities! If you go by the rules in this book, you can feel safe knowing that you have a great product for your customers!

A MUST!

I cannot sing the praises of this book enough. I have recommended it to fellow soapers and bath and body product makers. It is the most thorough guide out there and I love that it is in my hands and I am not having to scroll back and forth. Every product is broken down into how you need to label it and to what specifications. It is something that is really helpful to older and newer soapers. This is a must for everyone who is thinking of owning a business. I know my review is choppy, but this is one where I cannot say enough good things!

About the Author
Steven M. Kemp, Ph.D. is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received his Ph.D. in Psychology in 1993 from the L. L. Thurstone Psychometric Laboratory. He has taught Statistics at the Master's level at the Nursing School at UNC/CH. Steve does research in such exotic areas as neural network simulations of behavior, situational evaluations of behavioral simulations, and abductive reasoning. He is the inventor of the InSitu testbed (www.InSituTestbed.org). In previous lives, he has worked in data processing, software development, technical writing, advertising, and retail. This is his first book. When not writing or researching, he is a computer programmer and statistical consultant. Steve lives south of town with his cat, Eureka. Great Rough Guide

The book has a lot of great examples, and when paired with the workbook - is a force to be reckoned with when studying. However, the book I currently am using for my Business Stats class uses a lot of different formulas and symbols so at times it did not help me.

I wish the book had more work through examples, and guides as to when to use certain formulas when doing word problems, as with stats, knowing when to use a certain formula over another one is key.

Business Statistics Demystified makes use of analogies that helps in clearly getting the points across about the topics given in the book. It makes sure that the reader understands the points by using different analogies over and over again. It even includes an appendix that gives information on using basic math necessary for statistics along with further explanations on the topic of levels of measurements. This saves the trouble of having to rely on a whole lot of different resources for mathematical concepts used in statistics. The quizzes that focus on the chapters and the exams that focus on several chapters combined help to narrow down what is most important in learning this subject so that the reader does not get too overwhelmed with all the information. It features side bar notes throughout the book; here you will find important terms and definitions. The book explains the essentials in how to apply statistical studies to help in making important business decisions and what type of graph to use when preparing a report. Good idea, but the quiz answers should be correct

I'm not too far into this book, and I am learning from it, but I found it very disconcerting that for the first two chapters, most of the quiz answers were just wrong.

The book would say something, the quiz repeated that language, but that was not the right answer.

Yes, you can get a corrected quiz answer sheet on the web.

However, authors have to approve the final gallies before they go to press. These authors had the chance to make sure the quiz answers were correct, and they didn't.

I'm not sure how much I can trust their information, and I'm going to find another book to make sure I pass the class I'm taking.

The recipient of the Berkeley Citation―the highest honor for contributions to his field and to the University--Dr. Mehta is an Honorary Member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and is a member of its Committee on Sustainable Development.

Paulo J. M. Monteiro, Ph.D., is Roy W. Carlson Distinguished Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, University of California at Berkeley and Faculty Scientist, Department of Materials, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. Dr. Monteiro is a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and of the American Concrete Institute (ACI). He has authored and co-authored numerous journal articles, conference proceedings, and reports in addition to having co-authored the Second and Third editions of Concrete: Structure, Properties, and Materials.

Best Textbook I Own

My professor co-authored this book and I must say there's absolutely nothing wrong with this text. All examples, concepts and esoteric language is explained and it makes you dream about Concrete (it did for me).

My suggestion is try to make a very simple way to identify key terms in each chapter and write that in the front of the chapter. For example, for strength chapter, write down the terms: w/c, ITZ, Agg size and grade, Agg Elastic Modulus, porosity and relate these terms to strength of concrete.

Post grad engineering textbook

I am a block mason and concrete finisher. I bought this book to increase my knowledge of the trade. It was way over my head. My father in law is a professer of engineering, and he said it's definitely a textbook for post grads and up. I'm sure it's a great book and I envy those who understand it, but a book like Design and Control of Concrete Mixtures by the Portland Cement Association would be s much better choice for a tradesman.

Fun Thinking!

What a wonderful book!
I thoroughly enjoyed it - great fun and really gets your mind working.
It has filled in all those gaps which would otherwise just have been wasted -bus, tube, waiting in bar for friends. Its great to dip in and out of.
Only one problem - I am obviously going to have finished it well before Christmas! It would have been invaluable to stop the vegetation when just sitting around in the family scene. Fancy doing a sequel, Peter?

I absolutely love Peter Cave the king of philosophical paradoxes (at least to me). I first came to know about him through podcasts on philosophy and he is so funny. This book mirrors his sense of humor and natural wit. It feels like you are having a conversation with him over a glass of really good wine.

About the Author
Hans-Juergen "Jacky" Reznicek was born in 1953. He studied at the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music in Dresden majoring in bass guitar and double bass. He works as a studio musician and bass instructor. He has performed with the Klaus Lenz Big Band, Veronika Fischer, Pankow, Silly and King Kong. He's featured on various CDs and has written numerous books.

This book is tops. Approach, riffs, and training method is just great. Easy to use and understand, it makes learning almost fun. Almost that is, as practice should not be fun--not healthy to have so much fun.
